Disaster strikes without warning leaving victims devastated in its wake. These tragedies are extremely debilitating to marginal kids and their families. Most people associate relief with large scale disasters, but there is a follow up component that is often overlooked. LSMI responds to catastrophe and hardship by providing emergency assistance and ongoing community development.

The need for community development is not limited to the victims of natural disasters.  Deep poverty ravages communities. LSMI views relief both as something desperately needed when calamity hits, as well as the commitment to ongoing vital support and services that improve the quality of life of the battered and bewildered.

Your help with food distribution, health services, shelter and basic needs, and programs that rehabilitate those whose lives are caught in a web of alcoholism and drugs is essential. It becomes like a safety net that stops the freefall of poverty and begins the road to a better tomorrow building stable lives.

Medical Assistance

Many poor children and their families are permanently maimed or die prematurely because they were unable to afford life saving medical treatment. The poor suffer day to day with illness and are without hope when it comes to a life-threatening situation. Your suggested gift of $100 will go towards emergency treatment and medical assistance to those who cannot otherwise afford it.

Shelter & Basic Needs

Food, water, clothes and housing are things that most of us take for granted. Exposure and substandard living conditions for the disadvantaged contributes to numerous health problems. Often, inclement weather can wreak havoc on poorly constructed shelters that people living on the edge call home. A suggested gift of $200 provides for critical assistance to those who lack these basic essentials of life.

Food Distribution

Nothing is more disturbing than to see malnourished children. Many families go to bed hungry and wake up to empty pantries. Work interruptions, illness, family dysfunction and other factors make it tough to keep food on the table. Your suggested special gift of $30 helps supply food for distribution at no charge to those who need a helping hand up.
